Jazz Banjoist Jürgen Hintsche has Died

Jürgen Hintsche, a veteran banjo player in the German vintage jazz scene died on January 9 at the age of 79. Born in Celle in 1943, Jürgen Hintsche bought his first banjo at 17 and helped form The Glory Skiffle Tramps, which held together until 1964. Hee would go on to play with Sister Kate’s Jazzmen and the Canal Street Jazz Band, before landing with the Old Merry Tale Jazz Band in 1979. During the 1980s the band split into Addi Münster’s Old Merry Tale Jazz Band and the Traditional Old Merry Tale Jazz Band, Hintsche remained with both groups.

He was also the managing director of the Swinging Hamburg association for many years.
