Donald Heneberry passed away on April 9th. He was 93. At high school and college dances, he sang two part harmony with his twin brother Dave. The duo tied for first prize on the Horace Heidt radio program in 1950. They continued to sing together throughout their lives, with a final performance at Don’s 93rd birthday this February. In the early 1980s, Don Heneberrye began playing banjo for the Federal Jazz Commission, a traditional jazz band based in Washington, DC, which has a weekly residence at Colonel Brooks’s Tavern in the Washington’s Brookland neighborhood. Heneberry sang and played for the group for 25 years, appearing at the Smithsonian, the White House, and touring Ireland.
