Dr. Cleve Baker died on August 12, 2020, he was 85 years old. He loved the history of ragtime and jazz and how it intersected with American culture. In spired by the nearby San Francisco Jazz Revival music of Lu Watters, Turk Murphy and Pete Clute. His first paid gig was at the Red Garter while a student at Stanford. He played piano with the Dixon Phirehouse Philharmonics for thirty years, and later appeared with small bands on cruise ships.
Baker was a regular at jazz festivals, ragtime society events, and frequently sailed on jazz and ragtime cruises. A lifelong learner he was an annual attendee of both the San Diego and New Orleans adult jazz camps.
