The Prescott Jazz Summit: 2024 Preview

The Prescott Jazz Summit, held in Prescott, Arizona, is celebrating its 23rd year this August 23-25, 2024. Musicians from all over the United States will perform for the entire weekend. Our Friday night concert will be at Elks Performing Arts Center. The Saturday big band concert will be at Ruth Street Theater at Prescott High School. We will also have the Sunday concert at the Hassayampa and the Jam Session at Murphy’s Sunday night.

The Prescott Jazz Summit has been an annual event for most of its history, pausing only due to Covid-19 protocols for the 2020 event. We’re pleased to be back this year as strong as ever, and look forward to you joining us for great jazz from world class musicians again in 2024.

Great Jazz!

We present musicians from around the United States, Arizona, and our own tri-city area. Many of these musicians have performed with the biggest stars in the entertainment business, such as Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, The Blues Brothers, The David Letterman Show, June Christy, Anita O’Day, Toni Tennille, Cab Calloway, Joe Williams, and the big bands of Glenn Miller, Harry James, Jimmy Dorsey, Woody Herman, and Stan Kenton. We encourage you to attend as many concerts as possible, and recommend either a Patron or All Event purchase as the best value for anyone who wants to attend a number of events.

Last year, performers included trumpeters Walt Johnson, Mike Vax, Louise Baranger, Dave Coolidge, and Bruce Gates; trombonists Rob Boone, Brian Zabriskie, Art Swanson, and Calvin Audis; saxophonists Kim Richmond, Gary Anderson, Tony Vacca, Dave Russell, and Paul Brewer; pianists Khris Dodge and Angelo Versace; bassists Selwyn Reams and Chris Finet; drummers C.E. Askew and Kenny French; guitarists Jack Petersen, Howard Alden, and Mike Jaramillo; and vocalist Ronnie Rose.

The Jazz Summit is very involved with music education and has sponsored musicians to perform and do workshops in schools all over Arizona. We have reached over 4000 students over the years. We also give scholarships to deserving students to attend summer music camps and have donated funds to many school music departments.

Our goal is to present enjoyable music in a relaxed atmosphere. One of the favorite aspects for our audiences is the interplay between the audience members and the musicians.
