Canadian Cornetist Allan Kennedy Colter has died at 91

Cornetist Allan Kennedy Colter, of  Guelph, Ontario passed away on July 20th, he was 91. He played with the Cameo Dixieland Jazz Band and other traditional jazz groups around Ontario as part of a lifetime performing and learning about jazz. Even in his 80s he made himself available for as many as three gigs a month. He was respected for his knowledge of jazz history. Colter pursued Post Doctoral work at Harvard University to cap an education that brought him to a number of prestigious institutions. He taught chemistry at Carnegie Mellon and chaired the chemistry department at the University of Guelph until his retirement in 1994.
