Nina Michelle, a Canadian-raised jazz singer who became a familiar presence on the Munich music scene, died unexpectedly October 7. She was 58.
Michelle’s early jazz experience included performing in Vancouver with her father, trumpeter and pianist Ivan Nagy. A recording project with the New Orleans Dixie Stompers brought her to Germany, where she settled in Munich and sang for more than three decades. Her work there ranged from swing and standards to performances with the SWR Big Band, Scott Hamilton, and drummer Charly Antolini. She also wrote songs; her album Love Confessions appeared in 2018.
