His clarinet and saxophone is heard on a great many of the Classic Blues singers’ records, including some by Bessie Smith. In the late 1920s he led his own band at the 125th Street Dance Hall in New York. He left the music business and worked for the Police Department. He released several records under the pseudonyms of Slim Perkins and Slim Jenkins.
