Christmas With Champian Fulton

Christmas with ChampianChristmas With Champian is the seventh recording for this accomplished New York City based pianist/vocalist. She is supported by bassist David Williams, drummer Fukushi Tainaka, and her father, flugelhornist Stephen Fulton. Her selection of Christmas songs is a happy juxtaposition of standards and less well known numbers.

One which is especially appealing to this reviewer is Vince Guaraldi’s “Christmastime is Here.” Stephen Fulton’s flugelhorn work enhances this seasonal favorite. Ms. Fulton’s voice is full and melodious and enhances her pianistic skills.

Great Jazz!

Here’s a listing of other tracks on the album: “White Christmas” (Berlin); “Pretty Paper” (Willie Nelson); “I’ll be Home for Christmas”; “Winter Wonderland”; “Gracias a Dios” (Bojalil); “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”; “The Christmas Waltz”; “Sleigh Ride”; “A Child is Born”; “Let It Snow”; “Merry, Merry Christmas” (C. Fulton).

Ms. Fulton is back from a tour of the United Kingdom and a November 19 performance at New York’s Blue Note, and has scheduled December appearances in Canada, Washington State, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. Her website indicates early influence by Clark Terry.
