Clarence Williams and his Bottomland Orchestra
In 1927, Clarence Williams tried his hand at musical theater. He wrote the book and most of the music for “Bottomland” as well as producing the show, which starred his wife, Eva Taylor and Sara Martin. Bottomland was a flop. It opened on June 27th, 1927 and only had a twenty-one show run at the Princess Theatre (104 West 39th Street) in New York. Additional songs from the show such as “Bottomland” and “Shooting The Pistol” were released on records under the names of Clarence Williams’ Orchestra and Clarence Williams’ Jazz Kings.
